Description:
Two hypoglycemic agents Metformin and Vildagliptin where Vildagliptin is a Dipeptidyl Peptidase 4 (DPP-4) inhibitor which works through increasing insulin release & decreasing glucagon levels in a glucose-dependent manner by enhancing active incretin levels. Metformin reduces the absorption of sugar from the stomach, reduces the release of stored sugar from the liver and improves insulin sensitivity by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization. These complementary mechanisms of action lead to lower fasting and postprandial glucose concentrations in blood and ultimately reduce the Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) level.
Therapeutic class: Oral hypoglycemic.
