Description
Fluconazole is a triazole antifungal drug which is a highly selective inhibitor of the fungal cell membrane. Fluconazole acts by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, a major component of the cell membrane of yeast and fungi. It is broad-spectrum and well absorbed following oral administration and not affected by food. Its plasma half-life is about 30 hours and elimination half-life is about 20-50 hours. Peak plasma concentrations of the drug generally are attained within 1-2 hours after oral administration. It is widely distributed into body tissues and fluids. 80% or more of Fluconazole is excreted in the urine, about 11% is excreted as metabolites.
