Femex
Presentation:
Femex Syrup: Each 5 ml syrup contains Ambroxol Hydrochloride BP 15 mg.
Description:
Femex contains Ambroxol which is the active metabolite of Bromhexine, and it has been proven that this metabolite possesses a greater bronchosecretolytic effect than Bromhexine. It improves sputum rheology by hydrating mechanisms leading to liquefaction of mucus in the lumen of respiratory tract, thus facilitating the expectoration of mucus and reducing dyspnoea. It stimulates the production of phospholipid of surfactant by alveolar cells, thuscontributing to the lowering of superficial tension in the alveoli. It also reduces bronchial type reactivity. Ambroxol has anti-inflammatory properties owing to the inhibitory effect on the production of cellular cytokines and Arachidonic acid metabolites. In patients with COPD, it traditionally improves airway patency. After oral administration, Ambroxol is absorbed rapidly, and it undergoes the first-pass metabolism through the liver (bioavailability 70%). Half-lifeis approximately 9-10 hours and Ambroxol is excreted in the urine in the form of different inactive.
Therapeutic Class: Cough and Cold.
