Presentation:

Actrim DS Tablet: Each tablet contains Sulfamethoxazole BP 800 & Trimethoprim BP 160 mg.

Actrim Suspension: Each 5 ml suspension contains Sulfamethoxazole BP 200 mg & Trimethoprim BP 40 mg.

Description:
Co-trimoxazole is an antibacterial drug composed of two active principles, sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim.  Cotrimoxazole exerts its bactericidal action by the sequential blockade of two bacterial enzyme systems in the biosynthesis of Folinic acid in the micro-organisms. The synergy thus produced accounts for the high degree of bactericidal activity.

Co-trimoxazole particularly suitable for the treatment of respiratory tract infections, genito-urinary tract infections, skin infections, acute and chronic osteomyelitis, acute brucellosis, septicemias, nocardiosis and other infections caused by susceptible organisms.

It is sometimes used alone as an antimalarial

Dosage & Administration:

Actrim DS Tablet: 1 tablet twice daily.

ActrimSuspension: 1-2 teaspoonful twice daily.
